ARTIST BIO:
Kate Griffin is a New Jersey based fine artist and high school fine arts teacher.  Using mediums including paint, collage and mixed media, her work often focuses on the female figure, and typically explores the misconceptions, stereotypes, societal expectations and empowerment of women.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The works created for Stardust juxtapose the unrelated imagery of deep space with that of advertisements from the 1950’s-70’s from both Life and Time magazines.  The exploration of minimal cuts and negative space result in a surrealistic combination of visuals, which aim to invoke a sense of both nostalgia and wonder.
