Creating with epoxy resin is a challenge of control; wrestling with a fluid medium that can feel like pandemonium.  This fluid material is my defiant child, determined to cast aside loving advice from a parent in order to find its own way.  Yet, the resin lures me to it with the promise of details and depth within it that is found in no other process.  Viewing resin artwork is intriguing and best seen in person due to the 3D visual within the layers.

I must work quickly due to time limitations and temperatures.  Preparation is key, planning for tools and pigments are a must as I work against the clock once the resin medium has been made.  Happily applying the resin to the canvas and manipulating it with other elements, heat, air flow, gravity, and it’s changing viscosity in the expectation of satisfaction by achieving desired effects and details.  Finally, the time comes when the resin will ignore any further attempts to coax movement.  I must step away.  The resin will continue its transformative process for hours until it reaches a hardened state.  Layering is now possible.  Preparation can begin again for the addition of transparent or opaque pigments to the resin, building on the depth and design.

The final artwork you view captures the movement within the resin, struggling to find its place within ribbons of color like the layering of sedimentary rock formations or bands of varying colors in the ocean’s depths.
