The Pomegranate Eater is a meditation on the character of Persephone. Although she is often lauded as a powerful Queen of the Underworld, her journey there was a typical greek tale and involved her victimhood at the hands of Hades, her future husband. Worse, she was judged complicit in her captivity after partaking of a few pomegranate seeds while being held. This small comfort or pleasure was seen as compliance and acceptance of her situation.
