Linda Vonderschmidt LaStella – “Tree of Life”

sculpture clay and fused glass, 12” x 10” x 22”, $1,000.00

As one who has spent 40+ years as a ceramist, I discovered early on that clay is never merely “ the material that I use”, but a genuine co-creator of the objects. Working with clay is a relational experience that is extremely important to what I do & how I create. I stand as creature with creature in this making process in a very collaborative and femi-nine approach. My imagery, even if sometimes rather abstract, most often references nature, and I fnd it important to approach my work in the studio in a playful way, inviting the material to move in ways that perhaps I hadn’t allowed it before and splashing glazes freely. Over the past ten years or so, I have begun to experiment by incorporating found objects and fused glass with the ceramic components. The image of the tree has been a recurring one in my work from the very beginning.
