ARTIST BIO:
Kate Griffin is a New Jersey based fine artist and high school fine arts teacher. Using mediums including paint, collage and mixed media, her work often focuses on the female figure, and typically explores the misconceptions, stereotypes, societal expectations and empowerment of women.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The self portraits I entered into Reflections are a sampling of a larger series called Seen and Heard. In 2016, inspired by both my love for painting and making music, I created a series of 16 self portraits, each inspired by a song written and performed by a female musician. The series challenges the concept that women should be seen and not heard.
