   I use mixed media to paint and draw abstracted portraits, which are filled with angst and emotion. My portraits are usually genderless. Viewers are drawn in by the intensity of their gaze or their quiet sorrow.
   I also create abstracted landscapes. This has led to exploring local areas and falling in love with the tidal marshes of the Delaware River, which are near my home. My landscapes are busy, fierce renderings. Perhaps the antithesis to my portraits.
  At times I use different things (tape, pieces of rejected paintings, wrapping papers) to build up my substrate, as I love to work over the textures I create. Sometimes the texture leads the rest of the process, other times it disappears entirely. Layers of paint and various types of pencil form the face or the landscape.
