“Anxious Grooming” was one of those unplanned paintings that seemed to evolve as I was doing it. Somewhere in there is an idea that even while performing a nurturing or innocent act(grooming or giving a haircut) that if one has a bad conscience, is paranoid or self conscious enough apprehension can become real. There’s some sort of emotional contrast there. I think this painting is a hangover from being in the healthcare field.
