Eager to project an image of vibrancy and success, cities and towns welcome developers’ money. The changes do improve many quality of life issues for these areas. But, this transition comes at a cost leading to displacement of many people who can’t afford the housing. They end up migrating elsewhere or, homeless. Seldom does an effort seem to be made to accommodate the working class and certainly not the working poor. The end result is a narrow focus on the up-scale housing, shopping and dining tastes of high-income individuals. That’s progress?  The first image, “Transition and Displacement,” incorporates type and photographs of Jersey City in the form of a poster to make its point. The second image, “Homeless Along the Gold Coast,” shows a homeless person sleeping on a bench with Jersey City’s luxury high-rise housing in the background.
