Virginia Carroll “Swamp Reeds” watercolor on paper

Artist Statement:
Having spent my childhood years in Long Hill Township on the edge of The Great Swamp, this theme excites me. My friends and siblings spent a lot free time exploring the swamp in the days when children were allowed to roam free as long they were home by five; ” Listen for the five o’clock whistle.”, mother would say.
I love the shaded light, the vines, the foliage, the reflections in water and the old fallen trees. There is just a peaceful beauty about the place. I have painted the swamp in every season, in both watercolor and acrylic and in close up and panoramic views. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the subject. I find something new each time I visit.
