“ Growing up in Iowa, black alluvial moraines from Canada slid south along the Mississippi Valley creating the richest soil in/on top of/below Mother Earth. Freezing Father Winds followed. Evergreen were few on the farmlands & plains, but out on dawn hunting trips, red pheasant feathers fle, creek beds cracked with subzero claws of frost, concrete snow crusts cut into my legs, laser winds iced my ears with real burns! Black & white & gray horizontals everywhere, green & yellow only distant memories This painting limns Jack Frost as some sort of Japanese Insect Monster rising from the Dead to scatter sacred seeds far & wide & mountains deep, awaiting the new light coming at the Saturnalian Solstice in December, my birth month.
